You said, "Ghostbusters," didn't you?

It's actually a little earlier than that

Sometimes people make fun of my movie tastes.  I may or may not be known as a girl who ONLY watches Rom-Coms...but that's only partly true.

2 of my closest friends called me tonight and said, "We're going to see The Hobbit and wanted to extend the invitation but we already know you won't come."

I really considered it.  Maybe I could try and expand my horizons?  I'm sure I'll get something out of it.

"It's 2 hours and 50 minutes."
"What?!  As in five-zero?  Is there an Intermission during it?"
I told him I'd get back to him.

2 minutes later...

Nope, can't do it.
I don't like elves or things with pointy ears.
I don't like darkness as I saw in a horrible movie I once saw called "Lord of the Rings"
I hate fantasy movies.
So, no I can't do it.

I AM trying to expand my movie genres but quite honestly, why the hell would I want to pay to see bad things?  If I pay to see a movie, I want bright, people gazing into each others eyes, possibly a beach...what's so wrong with that?!?

My Top 5...
1.  Crazy, Stupid, Love
2.  The Notebook
3.  When Harry Met Sally
4.  Anything with Ryan Reynolds
5.  How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sweet Home Alabama, Friends with Benefits, The Wedding Date, Hitch, The Holiday, My Best Friend's Wedding, He's Just Not that in to You, Notting Hill, Knocked Up, Pretty Woman, What Happens in Vegas...and a few more ;)

However, in an effort to add to my movie watching reportaie (I hate when I use cool words but can't spell them), I did go and see "Flight" with some friends.  It's not a movie I ever would have chosen but it was AMAZEBALLS.  I wanted to see it again right after it.  I want to see it again right now.  This minute.  It was a mix between action/an episode of Intervention/a touchy feely-makes-you-feel-all-warm-inside-movie.

So, maybe I'm going to add a goal to this year...watch more "out of my genre" movies.

Another goal of mine is to convince Johnny Depp to play the leading man in a rom/com.  Come on Johnny!  Just PLAY the ridiculously hot man you are for ONCE in your odd life!

I can't wait to tell you this story.  I'm not sure why I get excited to tell you about what a lame I am but I do.

Forever I have joked that my brother tells the most detailed stories in life.  "So, then there was this ant and he was walking across the street.  I wondered where he was going..."
"Tom can we get back to the story about you surfing please?!"

In this instance, because of his detail-oriented story telling, I feel that he may do my story better justice than ,I but he doesn't have a blog because he's thinks they're super lame he's too busy so I'll go ahead.

"What should we do with the kids today?  The trampoline place or The Children's Museum."
"Let's let Philip decide."
Philip, much like his father, really ponders this decision.  "Well, I weawwy wove the Children's Museum but I WOVE Jumpstreet.  Wet's go to Jumpstreet!" <---I wish he would say those l's as w's forever but I know that someday his l's are going to come in...and on that day, I'll be sad.

Off we went to Flip Dunk (another trampoline place like Jumpstreet).

If you've never been to one of these places, it's a kid's dream come true.  The whole place is covered in trampoline's and you just bounce all over the place.  There an area for bouncy basketball.  There's an area for bouncy dodge ball.  There's an area to just bounce.

For adults, you can't help but think of how dirty it must be with all those shoe and sockless feet bouncing all over the place.  But if you can get past that, it's SO fun and a good way to get your heart rate up.

So, we get our wrist bands and get to jumping.  We're all having a blast.  Philip is trying to run up the side of the wall.   Tom is showing all of the 7 year-old kids what a cool "old guy" he is by doing back flips and nailing them with dodge balls.  I'm illegally sneaking Lily into the very clearly marked CLOSED gymnastics area.

Later into our jump session Tom and the kids are off jumping.  I think it would be a fun idea to jump across the whole place.  Now, there are trampolines but every few feet they are seperated by wood or metal covered by mats.  So, I had done it before.  I just get a big spring and jump from one trampoline to the next.

Off I go.  BIG jump from one, on to the next.  BIG jump from that one onto...the mat.  I don't even know which way my ankle twisted but I was immediately screaming in agony.  I'm looking at Tom through the mesh wall and he's asking a little girl he just knocked over if she was all right.

A pimple faced 14 year-old runs over to see if I'm all right.  I tell him to get my brother.

Tom comes back and immediately moves in to big brother mode, "Katie, don't move.  Just stay right there.  I'm going to pick you up."
"Tom you are insane.  You're not going to pick me up...on a trampoline...and carry me off.  No."
Tom picks me up.
I almost jump out of his arms.
"Seriously Tom?"

Over walk the owner of Flip Dunk to assess the situation.  I didn't take a gander around but I'd assume that everyone in the place was staring at us.

Tom's trying to help me and wrangle the kids.
"Philip, take your sister's hand and do not let go over it.  Follow Daddy.  Aunt Katie got hurt." <--Awe, how sweet.  Yeah, hang on to that thought...for a few more minutes.

2 different mid-voice change teenagers come over and are holding my arms over them.  The owner is behind her saying, "Now really support her.  Don't let her go."

The 2 boys are rolling their eyes at their boss as they are guiding me down from the death traps trampolines.

At this time I catch Tom's eye, he's trying not to laugh at me and he says, "You're being put on everyone in this place's team right now."

We sit down, "Katie, you are so embarrassing.  I know you're embarrassed but think about how I feel.  I'm the cool guy who can do EVERYTHING here.  I can back flip, dominate at dodge ball and my sister is the lame who breaks her ankle."

The final result...ANOTHER badly sprained ankle.  So far I'm at 1 or 2 sprains on my right and I think this is the 5th to my left.  Yes, I'm a bit accident prone but that's what makes me so lame endearing.

At least I have the most sympathetic brother in the world,  "And then you were just laying on the floor of the trampoline place..."

In the most completely unnarcissistic (made up word, go ahead and use it.  Trust me, I used to be a teacher) way possible we're going to place a game.  A game that's all about me.

See how well you know me.  Sidenote: (Sidenote to the sidenote: If you can think of a word that's better than sidenote, please share cause I hate sidenote...but now I just wanna keep typing it because I've typed is so many times that it's making me laugh...sidenote, sidenote, sidenote).  Back to the original...say it with me-sidenote: During my now sister-in-law's wedding shower we played, "How well do you know the bride," and since I'm always thinking about myself I loved the game I thought, I like this and I'd like to play it at my own wedding shower...but here we are today...I'm just going to go ahead and play...with my blog friends...via a computer...and my dog.  Awesome.

1. If you really knew me you would know that the place I workout is called Crossfit.  How are you doing so far?  I just wanted to boost everyone's confidence on #1 :)  You really know me well...so far.

2.  If you really knew me you would know that when I was 9 I kicked my brother.  He slid across the floor into our brand new pantry door and it broke off the hinges so I paid him $40 to help me put it back on and not tell Mom and Dad...and it worked...for 1 year, until my dad saw the giant gouge in it.

3.  If you really knew me you would know that even though I share a TON (Umm, you mean OVERshare a ton) on here, I still don't post my deepest, darkest secrets, fears and desires.

4.  If you really knew me you would know I HATE it when people repeat themselves over and over...and over...and over.  Example:  "I have this black flip-flop.  You know it's not white it's dark, it's black.  It's not a tennis shoe or a sandal.  Sometimes people call them thongs.  I call them flip-flips."  OH MY GOSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!  STOPPPP.  Why oh who do people do that?  I want to shake them and say, "I have a college degree!! And even if I didn't that rock over there probably understands you.  Just say it once.  Say it well and let us all move on with our lives!"

Wow, it feels good to get that off my chest.

5.  If you really knew me you would know I have a VERY sensitive nose.  I LOVE smelling good things and I hate smelling bad things.  Wow, Katie.  Riveting information.  Thank you for describing the general public.  You're so different from the rest of us.

6.  If you really knew me you would know that my mom forced me to drink a glass of orange juice every Sunday after church because it would help with my "cold" but wouldn't admit that perhaps I should get an allergy test because she didn't want me to be the weird kid who (and I quote her here and I need you to say this in the nasally making fun of other children voice she used), "couldn't ever go anywhere because of their allergies."  Mother of the year.  Thank you for the orange juice and the Kix Mom.

7.  If you really knew me you would know that I grew up on a cul-de-sac, in a neighborhood with tons of kids and we used to play Kick the Can until the streetlights came on or my my whistled for us.  It was like a 50s movie.

8.  If you really knew me you would know that most of my furniture is from Costco.  Maybe you shouldn't tell us that Kathryn.

9.  If you really knew me you would know that I usually think people are either, awesome or very annoying.  Chances are if I talk to you I think you're awesome and if I stare at you in a super obvious way because I have a staring problem (we KNOW) I think you're annoyballs (me and my brother end everything with balls these days--I blame Giulana Rancic.  And my brother just thinks I'm so cool that he copies me) Cool?  Your definition of cool is ending things with balls?  Hmmm

10.  If you really knew me you would know that I have a friend who loudly tries to set me up with any male, doing anything, in any place we see.  "Katie (as she stands 1/2 a foot in front of him and faces me), what about him?  He's cute."  And when I roll my eyes at her, she says, "This is your problem.  You need to just go after these guys."  "Meredith, he's walking towards the bathroom."

So...how did you do?  How well did you know those fun facts about me?
Thank you for participating in my wedding shower game game I'm playing while I sit on my couch.

First off...
Did you guys see that crazy negative girl who took over my blog the other day?  Ew, let's not let her do that again.

Here are the things I know a little bit about...in the fitness world*:
* Thank you, parents and family, for the introductions to almost all of these things.

Cycling
I own a road bike.  It's pink, by the way.   I have fancy clip-in shoes and a matching helmet.  And as long as someone tells me when to switch gears, I can ride my bike.  Old friends, are you laughing to yourselves whilst remember how many times I crashed my bike when I was a tyke?  Crashed into parked cars, crashed into other bikes, crashed while just standing there.  Oh wait, that wasn't just when I was younger...College friends, I'm sure, are remembering my "Very Bad Day."

My point being...I'm not a professional cyclist but I can ride my bike with the best averagest of them.  In addition to that, I can impress you with my knowledge of words like: big ring and cadence.

Rock Climbing
When I was 9 my aunt and uncle started to take my brother and I climbing all the time.  They were amazing climbers...El Capitan several times, Half Dome.  Wow.  Perhaps I should have stuck with that...On Belay?  Belay on!

My views and anxiousness to go rock climbing changed a bit when my dad fell about 25 feet, off a cliff while repelling because his rope was too short...and broke his femur in half and a ton of other bones in his body and almost died.  True story.  Happy Climbing!

I kid. I kid.  Well I'm not actually kidding about my dad's fall but don't let that scare you.  That almost never happens.  Climb on!

Hiking
I heart hiking but only when conditions are ideal.  Ideal means that I start my hike in a very thin long sleeve shirt and along the way remove it and don a tank top.  That actually goes for all sports.  75 degrees and I'm down...most other temperatures, not so much.

And if we're really being honest, I really like very mild hiking...no insane inclines.  I can hike and hike and hike for days just as long as it's completely flat.  Ah, Katie, that's called walking, not hiking.  No, I mean I'll do it on a dirt path.  Still walking.  Damn.

Swimming
In elementary school I was on the Heritage Park Seals.  My mom made me and my brother be on swim team because, "You're not just going to sit around all summer."  After my little bout with babysitting, I am certain she put us on swim team so she could get a break for a few hours a day.

Then I was a College Park Dolphin.  "Butterfly, Back, Breast and Free...we'll swim our way to Victory!"  I was an ok swimmer but I wasn't nearly as good as my 2 friends so, mostly, I focused on eating Airheads at the swim meets. <---What?  What a fat-kid comment!  I wasn't a fat kid.  I wasn't a excellent swimmer either.

In high school I quit swimming and we'd go to watch my friend's swim practices.  I think we all said we were going to watch her but, really, we would just go to watch the Water Polo boys do "deck changes" out of school clothes and into Speedos and silently pray that their towels would fall.

My point:  I also swam on swim team for several years.

PS.  This skill really helped me when I was training for a (sprint distance) triathlon.  It turns out, most triathletes SUCK at swimming.  Win for Katie.

Gymnastics
I was the Cartwheeling Queen for YEARS.  I went to the same gymnastic studio for a million years until my uncle (a former gymnast) visited and told my parents they weren't teaching me ANYthing and I should find a new one.

So my parents took me out.  And I was 13 and such a baby and didn't want to go somewhere and have to meet new people so I quit.  So, I never learned how to do a back handspring because I was too shy...lame.

SCUBA Diving
Is this really a physical activity?  Whatever, I'm including it.  I know how to do this.  Aside from the fact that my very old SCUBA instructor made a number of super inappropriate comments to me, as a 19 year old...in front of my father (who almost killed him), I persevered and learned to dive.

In fact, I even got my Advanced Diver certification by way of a near-death night dive that I hated every single second of...and almost did die.  Picture this...nothing.  Yeah that's what we could see. Nothing.  We had a head lamp and all of our diving gear.  A boat takes us out into the vast, black ocean and they say, "Jump in."  Ummm, I actually saw Jaws and I think I'll pass.

My brother was my partner and we got in, because he shamed me into it.  I swam behind him and never let go of his fin, even when he was kicking to shake me off.  It was the scariest 15 minutes of my life.  We stayed down until the exact time limit would let us get our certification and then I got out of those shark laden waters ASAP!

Skiing
I've been skiing since I was a tyke.  I used to be pretty good on blues...now that my fear levels have caught up to a normal humans, I think I'll stick to greens and it probably would take TOO much coaxing to just go down a few runs and go to the lodge and have drinks for the rest of the day.

Water Ski
On our boat we used to have water skis that were as wide as our actual boat.  It was super easy to get up on them.  Turns out, not all water skis look like that and I'm not sure if I could ski on something else.

Here's a quick tip for brand new water skiiers...when you fall, LET GO OF THE ROPE.  Immediately.

And here are a few things I tried once and have no desire to ever be good at:

Snowboarding
I wanted to like it.  I tried it.  I hated it.  Too hard.  Too scary.  Give me back my skis.

Sailing
I almost tipped an entire sailboat full of women over into the ocean.  I have no desire to be good at this.  Nah, give me a drink, SPF 12, and a towel...I'll be on the front of the boat.

Softball, Soccer, Volleyball
You know what I know about those sports...how to sit on the bench.  I know all of the softball cheers too.  Don't feel bad, I have other strengths.

I could give lessons in couch sitting AND vodka/soda drinking.  I charge $25 an hour...any takers?
